SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their 2021 season with a pair of victories at the Oklahoma Baptist Cross Country Invitational.
The Bison competed against Wayland Baptist, East Central, Oklahoma City University, and Northwestern Oklahoma State. The OCU men’s team won the NAIA National Championship and the ECU women placed second in the Great American Conference last season.
OBU’s Christian Arenivar beat out East Central’s Carson Sandvik to claim the victory. Arenivar finished with a time of 20:54.12. Noah Eskew finished in fourth for the Bison with a time of 21:06.51. The Bison won the overall meet with 28 total points.
ECU’s Sandvik finished with a time 20:57.34.
Timothy Jacobson and Noble Buckhaults were the top finishers for NWOSU. Jacobson had a time of 24:07.69, while Buckhaults finished with a time of 24:07.98. Jacobson and Buckhaults finished 25th and 26th respectively.
On the women’s side, Emma Downing brought home the win, having beaten out Kelsey Castillo by six seconds. Downing finished with a time of 11:34.45. Allison Derry placed third with a time of 11:44.84 and Kayla McGruder placed fourth with a time of 11:46.71.
ECU senior Aaliyah Regg-Wajid was the top finished for the Tigers, claiming seventh with a time of 12:20.64.
NWOSU freshman Emily was the top finisher for the Lady Rangers, finishing 19th with a time of 13:27.28.
