Johnson’s double-double leads Lady Rangers in season opener

ALVA – The Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Lady Rangers opened their 2020-2021 season with a 70-60 victory over the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University Friday afternoon at Percefull Fieldhouse.

Mya Johnson, a redshirt junior from St. Louis, MO, led the Lady Rangers with 21 points, 12 rebounds and two assists. She shot 10-for-13 and blocked one Aggie in 28 minutes of play.

Scout Frame, the senior from Kinsley, Kan., finished behind Johnson in double digit scoring after shooting 7-of-12. S. Frame finished with 18 points, three assists, four rebounds and one steal.

“It was very exciting to get the opportunity to play today.” head coach Tasha Diesselhorst said. “I thought the girls played hard and I was very pleased with Mya and Scout’s contributions inside. It’s a game we can build on and start to see what we need to continue to work on for conference play.”

NWOSU hit 48-percent of their shots and limited OPSU to just 47-percet on 22-of-46 shooting. The Lady Rangers edged out the Aggies in rebounding, 29-24.

The Lady Rangers return to Percefull Fieldhouse to face the Bluejays of Tabor College tomorrow, Jan. 2 at 2 p.m.
