SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams announced their captains for the 2020-21 season. Seniors Julie Day and Summer Dietz will lead the women’s team, while senior Tristan Villa and junior William Newman will lead the men’s team. Senior Cassidy Wright was selected to captain the diving teams.
The nominees for captain were selected and voted on by their peers, before the final decision was made by the coaching staff.
Day, from Peyton, Colorado, specializes the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 backstroke. Dietz, a native of Leavenworth, Kansas, swims in the 200 butterfly, 200 breaststroke, and 200 individual medley for the Bison.
On the men’s side, Newman, from San Manuel, Arizona, specializes in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and 100 butterfly, while Villa, an Allen, Texas, native, competes in the 100 and 200 butterfly, and 200 freestyle.
From Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Wright, is part of both the one meter and three meter diving lineups for OBU.
The team is scheduled to open its season in Edmond at the Sam Freas Invite on Saturday, Sept. 26.
